Moving on to the week’s Dochouse offerings, we come to the debuting Marco Proserpio’s The Man Who Stole Banksy, which starts out by outlining the mechanics of the theft of an infamous piece of street art before branching out to consider such weighty topics as the occupation of Palestine, cultural colonisation, the privatisation of space and the commodification of graffiti. It’s an ambitious attempt to examine the ethics of political control and artistic exploitation. But, despite the presence of Iggy Pop as narrator, this is also a self-satisfied exercise that skips across surfaces rather than exploring burning issues in commensurate depth. Moreover, it pays far too much lip service to its art world contributors by cluttering proceedings with a glut of archly composed close-ups designed to break the static talking head mould. 

To evaluate just what happens when we exceed the WLL and go to the Breaking Strength of a standard ratchet strap unit, destructive testing was conducted under a laboratory setting. The testing followed very specific step-by-step testing guidance from the Web Sling & Tie Down Association. Brand new tie-down ratchet units were placed in the test machine with everything set up according to specs—sufficient wraps on the mandrel, twin hooks connected to the machine properly, backside of the hooks down, pulling speed established, etc.

The Osmo Pocket is a 4K-capable gimballed camera attached to a hand grip. It records to a microSD card (up to 256GB) and is controlled using two buttons and a small touchscreen that doubles as a viewfinder.  The camera itself is fairly similar to what you’d find in a flagship smartphone. It has a 1/2.3-inch sensor, an 80-degree field of view, and an f/2 aperture. Video performance is high-end, up to 4K at 60fps and 100Mbps data rate (although it can’t track at 4K/60fps). It can also do 4x slow-motion video at 1080p. Still photos are 12MP and take advantage of the relatively-large 1.55-micron pixel size.

So many Nutcracker performances to choose from this season, it can be hard to decide which one to attend. If you need help, California Ballet Company’s version of the holiday classic has the most offerings – 12 showings across 7 days – with a cast of over 150 participants. Also, Tchaikovsky’s score will be expertly executed by the San Diego Symphony, so there’s that added bonus. Show runs December 14th thru the 23rd with tickets starting at $25. Children 12 and under receive a 25% discount. Must be 4 years old to attend, although there are two toddler-friendly performance dates offered.

UW professor José Alaniz will moderate the talk.

SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO) — It’s been an eventful spring at Falls Park.  Flooding on the Big Sioux River forced the Sioux Falls park to close for 10 days in March.  But people returned in droves once the park reopened.  Visitation was up more than 3,000 in April.  And attendance is expected to keep climbing in the months and years ahead.  Those larger crowds have city leaders planning changes at Falls Park.
